Description

At SPOON, we developed and fitted the S660's front section with a Stiff Plate Front to improve road feel and handling stability, achieving high levels of maneuverability.

However, as we continued developing the vehicle, we noticed a lack of rigidity and a sense of unreliability coming from the steering, forcing us to constantly make corrections. In order to improve this situation, we pursued even higher levels of handling stability and conducted extensive research and development testing to identify the cause.

The cause of this was the connection point of the steering gearbox.

Normally, the steering gearbox is firmly fastened to the subframe with four or more bolts.

However, the S660's is fastened with only two bolts, and there was play in the bolt holes at this connection point, resulting in constant twisting and the need for minor adjustments.

By increasing the connection points between the body and steering gearbox, we aimed to create a highly rigid structure that could withstand large inputs from the body and gearbox.

Like the Stiff Plate Front, the plate was created using a custom press die designed using 3D CAD. 1.6mm thick JSC780 ultra-high tensile steel was formed using an 800t hydraulic press.

Additionally, a custom collar was created using the same principles as a Rigid Collar to fill the gaps around the fastening bolts.

By increasing the fastening strength of the steering gearbox itself, we were able to achieve a direct, smooth, and high-quality steering feel.

Installation requires no modification whatsoever.
